A mold designer, in simple terms, is the person who "creates the mother" for products. Before the mass production of automotive parts, electronic products, household appliances, etc., molds are designed to manufacture these products. Without molds, even the best design can only remain on paper.

The work of a mold designer runs through the entire process from concept to mass production. First, there is digital drafting, using professional software such as UG and CAD to create a three-dimensional model of the mold, and then converting it into processing-oriented two-dimensional drawings. The next step is mold structure design, which is the core环节 - determining where the parting surface opens， where the molten material enters， how the cooling channels are arranged， and how the pusher removes the finished product. For complex automotive parts， sliding blocks， inclined dies， and other core-pulling structures need to be designed. During the design process， it is necessary to accurately pre-estimate the material shrinkage rate. The shrinkage rates of different plastics vary greatly， and if the size is incorrect， everything will go off track.

During the design stage， the mold designer also needs to use mold flow analysis software to simulate the injection molding process， predict problems such as shrinkage， warping， and trapped air， and optimize the mold before it is processed - this is particularly important for high-quality products like automotive parts.

Designing is only the first step. The mold designer also needs to track the manufacturing process and cooperate with fitters and CNC operators to complete the mold production. If defects are found in the prototype， the designer needs to analyze the cause， propose a rectification plan， and repeatedly modify until the mold is stable for production.

To be a qualified mold designer， one needs to be proficient in 3D design software， familiar with mold structure and processing techniques， master the molding characteristics of plastic materials， and be good at communication and problem-solving.
