⭐An Exploration of Aluminum Die Casting Cleaning Processes, Helping Customers Enhance Product Quality

In die casting production, improper cleaning of oil contaminants, release agent residues, and oxide layers on aluminum surfaces not only affects product appearance but may also interfere with subsequent processes such as painting and electroplating, potentially leading to customer complaints. How to scientifically and efficiently clean aluminum die castings is a process detail of great concern to many die casting manufacturers.

Drawing on years of experience in die casting mold design and on-site technical support, Haina Molds has systematically reviewed aluminum die casting cleaning processes and is sharing core insights for industry peers.

For oil contaminants and release agent residues, Haina's technical team recommends a cleaning approach using specialized die casting aluminum cleaners combined with ultrasonic cleaning. Typically, the cleaner is diluted at a ratio of 8% to 10%, and with ultrasonic treatment for 1 to 3 minutes, surface oils can be effectively removed. This method is particularly suitable for complex-shaped die castings with blind holes, as the cavitation effect of ultrasound can effectively dislodge dirt from tiny crevices.

For oxide layers and blackening issues, Haina recommends a graded approach based on the degree of oxidation. Mild mold stains can be treated with alcohol or bleach-based cleaners. For thicker oxide films, acidic cleaners such as aluminum acid remover can be used, with a concentration of 2% to 6% at room temperature and immersion for 3 to 5 minutes to quickly dissolve the oxide layer while maintaining relatively low corrosion to the base material.

"Although cleaning is one of the final steps in die casting production, it directly impacts product quality upon delivery," noted the technical director at Haina Molds. Haina Molds recommends that die casting manufacturers establish a standardized cleaning procedure: workpiece loading → cleaning solution treatment (ultrasonic recommended) → tap water rinsing → anti-oxidation treatment → drying. It is also emphasized that, before using any new cleaning agent, sample testing must be conducted to confirm no corrosion occurs before full-scale application. Die castings should be cleaned and dried promptly after processing to prevent severe oxidation caused by improper storage.
