CNC Machining
In the field of CNC machining, there is a well-known saying in the industry: "Thirty percent machining, seventy percent fixturing." This fully demonstrates the core position of CNC workpiece fixation in the entire manufacturing process.
Simply put, CNC workpiece fixation means using fixtures to securely hold the workpiece or blank on the machine tool table. A qualified fixture serves two core purposes: positioning (determining where the workpiece is) and clamping (preventing the workpiece from moving under cutting forces). If the workpiece is not accurately positioned and clamped, no matter how high the precision of the CNC machine itself, the machined dimensions will deviate, and the surface quality will be greatly compromised due to vibration.
In factories, there are various common fixturing methods:
Machine vises: The most basic and commonly used, suitable for regular rectangular or square parts.
Vacuum chucks: Suitable for thin-walled parts, easily deformed parts, or non-magnetic materials. The force is evenly distributed, making it less likely to damage the workpiece.
Chucks: Mostly used on lathes, suitable for cylindrical or disc-shaped parts.
Clamping plates and blocks: Suitable for large, irregularly shaped workpieces or those requiring extensive milling.
Zero-point positioning systems: A modern marvel for high-efficiency machining. Using pneumatic or hydraulic quick locking, changing workpieces is as fast as changing a USB drive, with extremely high repeat positioning accuracy.
An excellent workpiece fixturing solution must not only hold the part securely but also ensure smooth chip evacuation, avoid the tool's cutting path (to prevent tool collisions), and minimize workpiece deformation caused by clamping forces.
As a mold enterprise deeply engaged in precision manufacturing, Haina fully understands the impact of fixturing on final quality. In the machining of complex mold cavities, we flexibly design dedicated fixtures and positioning references based on part geometry and process requirements, ensuring that every cut is precise and stable, laying a solid foundation for producing high-quality molds.
